About this Assessment |
This workplace observation assessment requires students to complete the following tasks: Part 1: Establishing Student Routines and Requirements Part 2: Facilitate Learning Part 3: Learning Spaces Reflection |
Assessment resource requirements |
To complete th is Workplace Assessment , you must ensure you have: Access to the appropriate resources: Computer, printer, internet, and email software Microsoft Word or a similar program A workplace environment Access to a teacher for guidance Access to a minimum of three (3) different students with a maximum of four (4) Learning activities Various materials and equipment for creating space Access to the supporting templates and supporting documents. These documents and templates can be found in this document, on the Acorn College website or in the additional document folder. |
Instructions for the Student |
Workplace Observation Assessment provides an opportunity for your Supervisor to observe you completing a task that asks you to apply the skills and knowledge you have acquired. Use the following tips to help you complete the activity: Review the task thoroughly before you get started, and make sure you understand what you are required to do. If you have any questions, discuss them with your Supervisor Consider WHS and always work safely When being observed by your Supervisor, clearly demonstrate your skills |
Instructions for the Workplace Supervisor |
Guidance to supervisors about this task The purpose of this assessment is for students to demonstrate the skills and knowledge to create, maintain and manage learning spaces in group and individual learning settings. This assessment complaints three parts which students will complete during their work placement.
Students are required to collaborate with the Teacher to plan, prepare and facilitate positive learning spaces for the following: One for an individual One for a small group of three (3) students While facilitating the planned activities, students must use three (3) different techniques to create a positive and stimulating learning environment for each of the above spaces. As with any simulated workplace or classroom activity, consider workplace health and safety and ensure the environment is safe for all involved.
Observing tasks Use the checklist in the Part 2 Observation Checklist to record the outcomes of the tasks.
Arrangements for redoing the tasks Where students do not correctly or adequately demonstrate the skills and knowledge required for this task, they will need to be given feedback. Depending on their level of their performance and the types of areas in which they did not show competence, you may: Let them redo the task immediately after considering the feedback Request they undertake further learning and redo the task at a later date Discuss timeframes for reassessment with the student when you tell them the outcome for this task Please note: A qualified trainer and assessor will review and assess all the submitted comments and assessment evidence to determine the students' competence and abilities against the unit of competency requirements. A trainer and assessor will ensure each assessment has been sufficiently completed and determine the final assessment outcome. |

For this part of the assessment, you must demonstrate your ability to confirm, prepare and organise learning resources and schedules that support students' individual needs. This part consists of two tasks: Task 1.1 Supervisor Meeting Task 1.2 Resource and Space Preparation |
Task 1.1 Instructions |
To complete this task, you will need to: Meet with your Workplace Supervisor (the Teacher) to prepare activities and daily requirements for: An individual learning session for one (1) student A group learning session for a small student group of three (3) students Throughout the discussion, you must cover: The daily routines of the students The Teacher’s requirements for the implementation of these activities Your role as the education support worker Resource requirements Learning outcomes Individual student needs that must be addressed based on their learning plans Document your discussion notes using the Session Templates, Routine Template, and Student Information Templates below. In lieu of the Task 1.1 Routine Template you can use the school’s system or forms to create the routine. The routine provided must be an example of a student’s daily routine. Students must be de-identified if you use this option. Once you have completed these templates, have your supervisor sign the declarations to confirm that all details are correct.
Note: Due to the need to plan for a small group of students, the maximum number of students involved in these plans is four (4). The minimum is three (3). The student involved in the individual session can also be involved in the group session. |

Task 1.2 Instructions |
To complete this task, you will need to: Use the Task 1.2 Design Plan Template (included in the zip with this assessment) to design the learning spaces for: The individual learning session The group learning session There are two tabs or “sheets” in the Design Plan Template, one for the individual session and one for the group session. Develop a resource system for the learning spaces to ensure that the space and items required are available when needed. Using the Task 1.2 Resource System Template, provide an explanation of how the system works. Attach at least two (2) pictures that displays what the system looks like.
Note: It will need to be accessible to all teachers and students who can use the space. It should include the learning materials and a way to 'check out/in' the materials e.g. a lending library.
Obtain your Workplace Supervisor’s approval for the spaces and systems you have designed. Prepare the spaces, resources and equipment that were discussed in the previous task
Evidence of preparation will vary based on the activity, students and learning spaces involved. Some examples of the different forms of evidence you can submit to with this assessment include: Room booking confirmations Equipment booking confirmations or sign-out sheets. Completed worksheets Photos of you with adapted materials (e.g., board games you made, cue cards you made) Purchase orders Any evidence you submit must clearly show that it is your work. To demonstrate this, your name and email address must clearly show in any sign-out sheets, booking confirmations and purchase orders. Photographs of physical materials and spaces must include yourself or the printed coversheet of this assessment with your name written on it in the image. School students must be de-identified in any evidence you submit. |
