This assessment item will assess the student’s ability to evaluate an event effectively.

Description:

Students are required to find an event of their own choice and write a case analysis to evaluate the event operations, with a clear focus on one or more aspects of event coordination and logistics. Students shall try to apply the ideas and knowledge discussed in the coursework to the case analysis. The following contents shall be included in your case analysis where possible – e.g., relevant information could be obtained.

Part I: Event Overview

Overview of the event (e.g., name of the event, history, organising body, main venue, attendance number);

Key stakeholders and their roles and impacts;

Categorisation of the event (e.g., whether the event is a mega, hallmark, major or local event) and

Key event attraction from the attendee perspective;

Part II: Operational characteristics of the event

Operational characteristics of the event - use the four event operation characteristics to evaluate the chosen event and discuss the attraction of the event and related operational difficulties. Please refer to Module 2 Activity 2 for rating an event using the four characteristics.

Part III: Issues and Analysis

Identify one or two issues relevant to the management of the event (e.g., communication, venue management, attendance, logistics provision, community engagement, risk management, crowd management, cleaning/environmental issues)

Analyse the potential causes of the identified issues. Support your analysis with references of theories discussed in the course.

Part IV: Conclusion

Write a brief summary of the case analysis.

Identify alternative solutions to the issues discussed where possible;

 

Students are recommended to analyse an event where sufficient information could be obtained and included in the analysis. No fixed number of academic or other references is required, but recent (within the last 5 years) and credible references are encouraged.

Please ensure all necessary information sources are cited correctly in both in-text citations and reference lists. Please use APA Style (7th edition) in referencing.
